Hi, I had a tummy tuck with 360 degree lipo and muscle repair 7 month ago, even 1 month post op I had a bulge above the belly button and above the scar on my abdomen they also left my bellybutton piercing when they done the TT so I now have this above my pubic area. LCan you please tell me what these lumps are and if I’ve had a poor TT that should be corrected by the surgeon? When I lie down the bulges seem to disappear. Thanks
Answer: Irregularities after TT It is very likely that bulge is result of fat tissue which was not sufficiently flattened with liposculpting (liposuction). Without in person exam, that is however, impossible to confirm. You did not have enough skin between bellybutton piercing and pubis, to excise it. The way to eliminate piercings is to excise them and replace with longitudinal scars or, make a small tattoo? To discuss with your surgeon additional liposuction and treatment of piercing would be my suggestion. Good luck.

Answer: Abdomen Although your photos are limited, I suspect you have excess posterior skin which was/cannot be treated with a tummy tuck. If you consider the posterior lift, the excess tissue can be removed.

Answer: Tummy tuck results Dear Thrifty251763, I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice. Answer: Tummy tuck results To make a quality assessment on the outcome of a procedure we need to see proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have before and after pictures then ask your surgeon to forward the ones they took. It’s a little hard to make an assessment based on your pictures alone. It’s not uncommon for surgeons to do a little de-fatting around the belly button to create a more natural appearing abdomen. The fullness of your abdomen could be fat distribution or possibly horizontal skin laxity which is not corrected with a traditional tummy tuck. not being able to clear your piercing incision simply means you didn’t have enough skin laxity to remove that part of your abdominal skin while leaving the scar set low. The piercing scar could’ve been removed but your scar would then have been higher. Your surgeons approach was correct in maintaining a low set scar and the piercing marks are your own from your own doing similar to people who get tattoos and then want a tummy tuck. To get a quality second opinion consultation I suggest scheduling those as in person consultations with other local board-certified plastic surgeons in your community. Patient should come prepared for a second opinion consultations bringing with them proper before and after pictures and a copy of your operative report. These are all part of your medical records that you can get from your surgeons office by requesting them. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
