I am 34 year old Female and in February 2022, I had a tummy tuck with MR, Lipo to flanks, Breats lift/augmentation. 3 months postop, my doctor did additional lipo to my right “love handle” which was significantly larger than my left. 3 months later and its still much larger but seems to be more skin than fat. If I were to request this extra skin be removed, how would it be done? I feel as though an extended TT would of eliminated this issue all together.
Answer: Dog ears Excess skin at the hip areas after a tummy tuck are referred to sometime as "dog ears". They can usually be addressed as a minor procedure done under local anesthesia in an office surgical suite. I encourage you to speak to your surgeon about your concerns and discuss your options.

Answer: Loose skin Dear Exciting407799, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Dog ears and extending a tummy tuck Some patience need an extended tummy tuck or well done liposuction of the love handles and waist in combination. In order to properly reach to do a proper extended tummy tuck or well-done liposuction of the backside patients need to be turned in the operating room. Turning a patient under general anesthesia is done regularly but is avoided if not necessary. It’s quite cumbersome and typically requires six people and can take up to 30 minutes. The nursing staff and anesthesiologist are not big fans of turning patience during surgery but it is simply necessary to get proper access to do the procedure correctly from the backside. Some plastic surgeons will do revisions doing an extension or removing the excess skin and or fat as office space procedure hundred under local anesthesia. Some will do this for free and some will charge patients. It’s fairly common when revisions are done in the operating room for patients to pay facility and anesthesia fees while the surgeon typically comps any surgeons fee. That seems to be the most common if the procedure is not done in an office setting. It sounds like your surgeon is motivated and wants you to have the best outcome. Revising dog ears is pretty common and as surgeons master their skills the incidence of needing to do this probably decreases to some degree. Scheduling the procedure as an extended procedure the first time around is substantially more complex and adds significant facility fees and cost. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
