Would using a vibrating massage tool affect the longevity of Botox?

Question

Would using a vibrating massage tool on the face affect the longevity of Botox? I.e cause it to wear off quicker. I use one as it helps de puff and tone my face. I can’t seem to find any answers on the web. Perhaps there haven’t been any tests or studies carried out. It would be great if someone does have any information. Thankyou for reading.

Hello SuzyJA! My name is Jessica, I am a physician assistant, and one of the providers at Shah Facial Plastics. This is a great question. Using a vibration massage tool does not affect the longevity of Botox. However, I advise all of my patients to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for 24-48 hours after being injected in order to avoid potential side effects. Hi, that is a great question! A vibrating massage tool can affect the longevity of botox because it is making the muscle contract. When you are having the muscle contract over and over again it is causing the botox to wear off faster because it is being metabolized at a faster rate.

There has been no proven scientific evidence that facial massaging tools result in a decrease in Botox longevity. One factor that plays a role in Botox longevity is the level of physical activity i.e. strength training/HIIT workouts due to the increased in vasodilation and an increased metabolism. Of course, always consult with your cosmetic injector or PCP for personalized clearance.

A facial massage tool should not significantly impact the longevity of your Botox treatment.  However you should avoid using it the first few days after injection.  Botox effects last approximately three to four months and wear off gradually.  I've included a video that I hope you find helpful.
