Hello, Thank you for your question regarding arm lift swelling and tightness nine months post-operation, and whether this is normal. Thank you for your history and your picture. It is not uncommon to have swelling even 12 months after an arm lift. If you have swelling, I would suggest you minimize it by wearing a compression garment from your wrist to your armpit. You should also keep the elbow straight and elevate the hand. Do this for about two weeks after each bout of swelling. You should also consider having lymphatic massage to the area. If you've already had lymphatic massage, you should repeat it, as this will help to minimize swelling. In terms of the tightness, it is a common complaint after the arm lift. The tightness may last for many years to come. I would suggest physical therapy and active range of motion exercises. You may even need to enroll in a physical therapy class to regain range of motion and minimize the tightness. I hope I have answered some of your questions regarding arm swelling and tightness, nine months after your brachioplasty. Good luck. Sincerely, Dr. J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FACS, FICS
