Answer: BBL and Tummy Tuck Dear shann501, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. If you have clearance from you oncologist and everything in your presurgical test are good you are a suitable candidate. Answer: Getting a tummy tuck, BBL with complex medical history You may or may not be a good candidate for these procedures. It requires more information than knowing your medical history. It would be important to have a clear understanding of where the sarcoma was and what treatments you had for it. Radiation therapy is a major contraindication for doing cosmetic surgery in the radiated field. Both of these are pretty major procedures. Personally I think it’s better done as two separate procedures generally starting with the tummy tuck first followed by a BBL if needed six months later. Some providers prefer to do this as combine procedures while others prefer to do the BBL first. Both procedures are highly operator dependent comes to getting quality results and having an overall positive experience To find the right provider I suggest patients have multiple in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons. Start the process by getting a quality set of pictures of your body the same way plastic surgeons take before and after pictures. Picture should be taken about 8 feet away showing your body from your neck to your knees standing in a neutral position wearing revealing undergarments showing your front, side and back side.Bring printed copies of pictures of yourself for any consultation or use them anytime you are reviewing before and after pictures. In the end there are only two variables that really matter when it comes to quality liposuction fat transfer and tummy tuck results. patient candidacy and skill of the surgeon. For that reason when reviewing before and after pictures you should select only images of previous patients who have similar body characteristics to your own located. Patients generally do not understand if they are a good candidate for surgery or not. I recommend people start with at least five in person consultations and consider scheduling more if they have any reservations. During each consultation ask providers to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures. Ask providers to only show you before and after pictures of previous patients who had similar body characteristics to your own. Ask providers to show you examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes and outcomes that did not turn out as well as they had hoped for. Ask providers what the revision rate and revision policy is. Providers will prefer to show you preselected results representing some of the best results of their career and I may not want to show you all of their outcomes. While seeing preselected best of their career outcomes may be impressive it does not give you any idea of what average results look like and in truth most patients and I’m not getting the best results but getting average results. You also need to get a sense of how many of these procedures anyone surgeon has actually done. For a reference and experience surgeon should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 sets of before and after pictures. For liposuction results make sure there are no skin contour irregularities in any treated area. make absolutely sure exactly what areas are going to be included with the treatment and then confirm what each area looks like on before and after pictures. For tummy tuck results look carefully at who gets the most natural looking belly button with a very low set scar that follows anatomic contours naturally and evenly on both sides leaving the torso looking attractive and appropriate from all angles including from behind. When in doubt slow down and schedule more consultations. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
