It is importantthat patients maintain a healthy diet including many fresh fruits, vegetablesand protein. However, there are certain foods which naturally containsalicylates, which affect the blood, and should be kept to a minimum two weeksbefore and two weeks after surgery. Cutting down on these foods will reducebruising after surgery. A low sodium diet will also help to avoid swelling anddiscomfort while allowing patients to heal faster after surgery. Propernutrition and rest can aid healing remarkably. Be sure to follow a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon’spost-operative instructions. Good luck!

Maintaining a stable weight after liposuction will ensure that the results are long-lasting. I recommend that my patients eat a healthy balanced diet, with an emphasis on protein, fresh vegetables, and whole grains with limited fat, carbo, sugar, and alcohol. Your surgeon should be providing you with this information as advice will differ. Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Having a balanced diet would be recommended post-surgery to make sure the body is getting enough nutrients during the healing stage. Avoid eating too salty or sweet food and decrease carbohydrate intake.
