lips injected with Juvederm 0.5ml two days ago, injected into top lip, mainly the body. Post injections lips were symmetrical &there were no lumps. However, same evening lips started to swell, with two pronounced lumps, (watery texture), where i mainly received the product. Majority of swelling has now gone but, the lumps are still present, although reduced in size. is this normal & shall i not massage them? i do not want to miss the window during which juvederm is still malleable. Many thanks.
Answer: Lip Swelling After Fillers Such as Juvederm or Restylane -- Reverse With Hyaluronidase It is common to get swelling after fillers into the lips. It is not normal to have irregularities or severe swelling. If you are unhappy you should speak to your physician and have the area injected with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that reverses the hyaluronic acid filler. For the next injections, consider Restylane Silk with cannula injection, this technique will limit the pain, swelling or bruising after the filler placement. It often takes up to two weeks for swelling to subside on its own. Find an expert in filler injections for your future treatments. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Swelling/Brusing (early) from Fillers I always tell my patients to not love their filler injections for 2 weeks. Swelling is very common and sometimes immediate. It can last 3-7 days and a good idea is to use cold compresses. Cold compresses may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling only if needed. This may be applied for 3 minutes, 3 times per day, for up to 3 days. This is best done with a bag of peas in a zip lock bag. Only apply light pressure to the area but gentle massage might be necessary. Get Arnica gel if you can find some and apply a few times a day as well to help treat any swelling. Avoid any blood thinners. Bruising can also last 1-2 weeks. I don't recommend hyaluronidase this early and wait a few weeks until the swelling has resolved. If it is persistent or you are worried, set up a follow up appointment with your dermatologist.

Answer: Lumpiness after Juvederm Hello Kayy15,As a rule of thumb, your swelling should increase for the first 2-3 days after an injection. Where the needle was inserted it can cause some local trauma. This can lead to a lumpy feeling in those locations. The other possibility is the actual Juvederm itself is causing the lumpiness. Each physician will make his or her recommendation about massaging. My personal preference is a gentle massage 30 seconds 3 times a day for 3 days after injection. I recommend this to help prevent the development of lumps because it helps to disperse the filler on the edges without moving the filler from the area where you want it to be. I don't recommend any vigorous massaging because if you push too hard you can actually bruise yourself and make the lump worse. It is normal to feel the material initially but that goes away in my experience. If you are concerned you can return to your treating provider for a better assessment. Your physician can then decide if you would benefit from Hyaluronidase (Vitrase) which is a material you inject that can make the Juvederm disappear within minutes. I hope this helps and good luck.
