What can be done to eliminate fat necrosis following abdominalplasty and panectomy?

Unfortunately there is no practical way to remove large areas of fat necrosis from the abdomen.  The good news is that with time( 6-8 months) the areas of fat necrosis should soften and get smaller. Discuss this matter further with your surgeon. Best wishes. 

Fat necrosis post abdominoplasty may require additional surgery to deride or remove the non viable tissue.If you have a seroma after 4 mths, you may need revisional surgery to drain the seroma. The fluid may be encapsulated (trapped by scar tissue) and the capsule may need to be partially removed. Drains may or may not be necessary depending on the situation.Best wishes

I'm very sorry to hear that you've had such complication after your abdominoplasty procedure. The best person to help answer these questions is of course your plastic surgeon who operated on you. I would hope that you have had multiple office visits and conversations with your surgeon to discuss what needs to be done at this point. The management of your complication is not simple. It does however entail debridement of the necrotic. This may require multiple procedures. Once all of the dead tissue is removed your body will slowly start to heal on its own. You will likely require months of world care, dressing changes and possible topical antibiotics.  Ultimately the wound will heal on its own but it will leave you with a larger than expected scar. Down the road you may like to have a scar revision to reduce the area of scarring.
