I'm 20 years old, I started losing my hair at 16 maybe, I've been using Minoxidil for about 7 months with no results so I'm considering a transplant. I think my uncle has the same pattern as me and he is 40 and has hair on the back of his head and high above the temples on each side, given this, can I do a transplant at my age to take precautions of future loss, or is it a bad idea?
Answer: Early hair transplant Dear fantastic7365Thanks for the question. The simple answer is yes you can have a transplant at this age. However, the main issue is that if you are still losing hair, the top will continue to thin out. Therefore you will almost certainly require a further transplant in the future. Male pattern baldness is usually complete by 35 and so it is generally after this stage that the majority of patients have the transplants. Having said that, many like yourself do look for results earlier as they want to enjoy the full head of hair now. I do not think this is a problem but you have to be aware that you will be losing hair on the top so following the surgery over the next 3-4 years, you might not notice as much thickening as your existing hair thins.Using minoxidil and PRP can help - as can many of the non-surgical treatments to try and keep things at bay for longer until you bite the bullet and go for the surgeryI hope this is of help BWRohit Seth

Answer: Hair Transplant Hello, and thank you for your question. Based on your age, I would not recommend receiving a transplant as a treatment option. If you are losing hair now, it will continue to thin out, and the grafts may not be effective. Consult a board certified surgeon to see whether this would be the best option in your situation. Answer: Hair Transplantation at Age 20 The simple answer to your question is, yes. Hair transplantation on a 20 year old can be done with long-term planning and preparation for future hair loss. For some people, the reliance on scalp hair alone will not be enough if they eventually reach a severe state of hair loss. Younger individuals who have enough comparable body hair may qualify for hair transplantation. The body hair would supplement the extractable head hair to produce a larger donor supply and prevent them from running out of grafts. Body hair does require specialized technology in order for these follicles to be safely extracted. Our office at the Dr.U Hair and Skin Clinics in Los Angeles has developed our Dr.UGraft ™ system to make this possible. In short, by anticipating future hair loss and having enough graft resources for additional surgery, hair transplantation may be a feasible option, even if you are just 20 years old.

Answer: Hair loss Hello, Now you are at a very young age for hair transplantation, if your hairs still falling out you need to wait couple years more to see the condition of your hairs. If you are using Minoxidil then don't just stop using them, slowly lower the dose of it not to increase hair lose. Consultation with good dermatologist will help you to find the problem, my be it is because of the lack of vitamins or hormones, after he might advise you PRP procedure or mesotherapy.

Answer: Getting a transplant? There are a few reasons why getting a hair transplant isn’t the right option. Lets go over some of them: You cannot transplant hairs as close together as they grow on their ownCutting the holes required in the transplant region to put in the hairs will hurt blood supply to the surrounding hairs and cause them to be lost sooner.A transplant will not stop the ongoing process of hair loss and you will lose the hair around and behind the transplanted hairs unless he does something to stop it.If he relies only on transplant there will not be sufficient hairs to move from the donor area o cover the whole area that will eventually be lost.Any medicine that actually can make changes inside your body, are required under the FDA to be available by prescription only. This therefore means that it is not possible for anything that does not require a prescription to cure or prevent hair loss or regrow thinning hair. Thus, a personalized medicine will be the best choice because instead of a "one size fits all" approach, you will be taking something which is truly catered to your body's needs. The right treatment is out there. Good luck on your search.
