How many more grafts can be extracted for a 2nd hair transplant to achieve good density? (Photo)

I had my first hair transplant (FUE) 7 months ago with 5200 grafts which I feel low density. I am looking for 2nd transplant . Considering 5200 grafts were extracted from back of the scalp, how many more can be safely extracted to achieve density. Also, is it possible to use beard as donor area if the back of the scalp is insufficient

A proper evaluation and examination of your donor area would need to be performed to assess the residual density.  If 5200 FUE grafts were extracted from the first procedure, subsequent procedures may leave you at risk for focal hair loss in the donor area.

With 5,200 grafts you had previously, you're likely to reach the limit of FUE technique. It's better to visit experienced surgeons in person to have a proper donor assessment.

Excellent question. Graft quality is the key vs graft quantity. I agree, it looks like a low density result after 5,200 grafts. Are you in any Medical hair loss treatment? It is difficult to make any comments about your donor area for a second surgery. You need to be seen for a local and experienced hair loss expecialist, you may be need a 2nd opinion too. Good luck.

5200 grafts from the back of the scalp is already upper limit for taking graft from scalp, if more grafts are extracted than there are chances of thinning and also unsafe zone may be involved.
Yes, beard is a good donor source to increase the density in second hair transplant, beard grafts are thicker and give good volume to the hair. beard graft can be implanted in between the scalp hair so they get mixed with the scalp hair. Healing is comparatively faster in the beard and good quality of punches ( sharp with diameter less than 0.75mm) leaves negligible scar. We can even extract around 2500 to 3000 grafts from beard depending on the density of the beard.
