How common are keloids and hypertrophic scarring during Labiaplasty post-op recovery?

Labiaplasty will not lead any keloid or hypertrophic scar. this area is not prone to these scar problems. The skin is not a keratinized, has good blood supply and this make the healing better than other parts of the body. the scar of the surgery will be almost invisible at 1 years.

After hundreds of labiaplasty cases I have yet to see a keloid or hypertrophic scar in the labia or clitoral hood excisions. The labia and the lips of the mouth share a huge amount of anatomy, even on a cellular level. The inside of the mouth is very very resistant to scarring and instead develops almost a shiny layer after trauma. If you bite your cheek or burn the roof of your mouth it generally is heals without anything visible from the injury. The same is true for the labia minora.

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that can help achieve a smaller, and more tucked appearance of labia minora (inner lips).
Keloids scars and hypertrophic scars are not very common after Labiaplasty procedures, and development of unfavorable scarring depends on patient genetics, as well as surgical techniques and suturing used.
I suggest that you seek an in person consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon specializing in Labiaplasty to further discuss your options, specific techniques, concerns and expectations. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results.

Keloids and hypertrophic scarring in a labiaplasty procedure is rare. (Even when I take diagnostic biopsies from my gynecology patients.) I have never seen a keloid formation in the labia minor after a labiaplasty in my surgical practice.

I am asked this question often, specially from patients who have a history of keloids post surgery or trauma. The risk is minimal to zero with properly performed lapiaplasty since there isn't any tension on the incision lines. I haven't seen any keloid formation even in patients with a strong history of keloids.

Keloids and /or hypertrophic scars are very uncommon after a labiaplasty for the labia minora as
this tissue is of a different quality as opposed to epithelial surfaces of skin. It is possible to get a hypertrophic scar on the labia Majora if one closes this structure with a great deal of tension. Typically a surgeon does not close this area with a lot of tension as it would open the introitus. I have never had a keloid or bad scar in this area so I would say that it is rare to get these types of scars.

The skin of the labia majora might keloid if you are predisposed. The skin of the labia minora will not. Of course, if the work is extended from minora to majora, the area of major might keloid.

Thank you for sharing your question. The risk of hypertrophic or keloid scarring is quite low during a labiaplasty procedure, in fact I have never seen one. Hope this helps.

I have done more than 1000 labiaplasties so far, I have never encountered keloid. The skin structure of the genital area is advantageous in terms of keloid.

i really haven't seen any keloids with the technique i use. i use the trim technique for the labiaplasty. Best to see a board certified plastic surgeon. the scars will disappear in my experience.
