Would a revision otoplasty make the middle of my ears stick out a little more? (Photos)

Otoplasty surgery is usually designed to place the ears from a protruding position to a position closer to the head. This distance works well in our experience when it is approximately 1.3 to 2 cm.  Greater than 2 cm the ears look prominent. Following surgery ears appear to lie really close to the scalp. Depending on technique, over a period of time it is not unusual for ear position to slightly change and move outward a few mm.  There is no 'perfect' position but we want our patients to be comfortable with the 'new' position of their 'old' ear.

Thank you for your pictures and questions. Often after otoplasty, the ears do rebound some, so I would advise waiting at least a year before considering a revision. If at one year, you are still not happy with the outcome, then I would advise talking to your surgeon about your revision options.Good luck!

with the post-op 'against the head' ears?  Without knowing the discussion you hdd with your surgeon, it wouldn't be fair to criticize the outcome.  But at this point, you cannot really do anything except allow yourself to heal or consider removal of the permanent sutures to help your ears rebound to your pre-op appearances.  Most surgeons who do otoplasty will show their patients what the anticipated outcome will be like and allow them to decide if that look is what is desired.  Discuss your concerns with your surgeon as you have valid concerns unless you agreed to that look.

Your otoplasty looks well done, and know that is common for ears to rebound out away from a head a bit after about a year. This early after your surgery, you are also going through an adjustment period in which you need to get used to your new look before making any decisions. Wait another 7  months at least before opting for any revisional work.
