What is the cost to have both ears done? Does insurance pay for this procedure and can it be done yet this year? (Photos)

 The cost of an otoplasty is directly related to the surgeon's fee and the operating room fee where it is performed. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, so there's no anesthesia fee. Most patients undergo the procedure under local anesthesia. T he otoplasty procedure involves re-creating the anti-helical fold and suturing  that year back towards the scalp with permanent stitches. The incisions are located behind the ear. Medical insurance does not pay for elective cosmetic surgery such as in otoplasty, since there is no medical necessity. Ear surgery, known as Otoplasty is a cosmetic procedure so not covered by insurance.  Insurance will only cover procedures that are medically necessary versus cosmetic.  Costs do vary by location and are mostly based upon the Doctor's training, expertise and experience.  I would recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon with training/experience specific to the hear, neck and ears.  Upon evaluating your ears, you will be given what your surgical fee would be.Best,Dr. S.
