Does bacterial infection or UTI mean surgery isn't at all possible? (Photo)

If you have an active infection of any kind, you should postpone your surgery until the infection has cleared.  A breast augmentation is an elective procedure and every step should be taken to optimize your results.  Given your history, your surgeon will likely order a urinalysis as part of the pre-operative evaluation.  If that is negative and you are symptom free, you should be able to proceed with your surgery.  If the test shows evidence of an infection, you will need to take antibiotics until the infection has cleared.  Best of luck!

Thank you for the question. It is unlikely that your history of urinary tract infections will get in the way of proceeding with breast augmentation surgery. Essentially, if you develop a urinary tract infection prior to or after breast augmentation surgery, treat it promptly. Also, it may be in your best interests to be seen by a urologist to determine the cause of the frequent urinary tract infections? Hi. Although a UTI is not an absolute contraindication to your surgery, there are studies that indicate that your chances of a post op infection or subsequent capsule contracture go up slightly. If this condition is chronic, I hardly doubt you will get it cleared up prior to your surgery. Get good antibiotic coverage pre-op and you should be alright. Good luck, Dr. PG
