Thank you for your question. Oratane, also known as isotretinoin, is one of the best medications on the market to treat acne. During therapy and up to 6 months after completing isotretinoin, your skin is highly sensitive and chances of scarring are high. Hair removal can be done via shaving, threading, or tweezing. However, with tweezing, you must exercise caution as to not pluck normal skin because the trauma/injury to the skin is what may scar. With that being said, I recommend my patients to wait at least 6 months after completing therapy to consider any treatments to the skin including tattoos, piercings, cosmetic procedures (waxing, dermaplaning, dermabrasions, peels and lasers), or any surgical procedures. I recommend you speak to your dermatologist regarding your concerns before getting any procedures performed. Good luck and take care.
If you son has had a growth spurt there is no reason isotretinoin should stunt his growth. you can do plate testing with X Rays prior to treatment. I have not see this happen to anyone I have treated but it is reported in very rare cases. Best, Dr. Emer.
