Yes, this can be typical after lip fillers. It can take 1-2 weeks for bruising to resolve and for final results. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

The lips have a huge number of blood vessels in it, so it is not completely unusual to get a bruise in the lip during the treatment. You can help the bruise resolve by applying moist, warm compresses to the lip four to six times daily and the Bruise should disappear within a matter of days. Good luck from New York City

Since you have wrote "lips" (plural) I assume you have received the injection in both, the upper and lower lips. If you really got only 0.4ml of filler, divided between both lips, than aside of a bruised upper lip, the reaction is quite dramatic, unless your lips were already overfilled with previous injections. Make sure your injector is aware of it. Stay within limits of natural; there are clear, long term consequences of continuous over-stretching of visible soft tissue, particularly in the lips. Thank you for your question and for sharing your photographs.  Sorry to hear about your experience.  You appear to have a large bruise.  I recommend that my patients apply ice for up to 48 hours after the procedure.  Arnica is also helpful for minimizing postprocedure swelling and bruising.  Please keep in mind that it will take 2 weeks to allow postprocedure swelling and bruising to fully resolve and to see your final result.  If you continue to have concerns, please be sure to see your injector for an in-person reevaluation in order to determine the best course of action.  Hope this helps and best wishes!
