Found out after my Breast Augmentation that I have gingivitis. Is this going to affect my implants?

I quit smoking due to having surgery.. Well after my augmentation I noticed my gums were bleeding and found that this is linked to gingivitis and early stages of Periodontist.. I know that having work done on your teeth can effect BA and was told to wait until my 6wks. So between now and then just having the issue and my gums bleeding can this affect them.. I am actively fighting the problem but is this enough our has my BA been compromised.. How will I know??

Hi Amber,Following a surgery most things can result in anxious moments. As you are actively fighting the gingivitis by taking good care of your oral hygiene, it is very unlikely & rare that your breast augmentation procedure will get compromised in any way.All the best & wish you a fast recovery.

Your gingivitis has a low chance of affecting your breast implants, but if it does, it will most likely manifest itself as capsular contracture with your breasts becoming more firm due to scar tissue around the implants. This can be treated if it occurs, but for now, continue good oral care to lessen the chance of bacteria entering your bloodstream and possibly affecting your implants.

Thank you for your question. The best thing to do would be to treat the gingivitis immediately. I would not worry too much the chances of this interfering with your breast implants are low. Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry that this has caused you to worry.  Though it is possible to have seeding of your bloodstream with bacteria from your mouth it is unlikely to materially affect your breast augmentation results.  Only time will tell but continue your current recommended treatments to take care of your gums.  Best wishes.
