Should I have dog ear from upper blepharoplasty removed or will it be worse? (photo)

Question

I had an upper blepharoplasty two years when I was 43. My left eye has a dog ear that I dislike. It looks like a pimple and sticks out because it's a light color. The surgeon first said that the scar might look worse after removal. But then 6 months later said it would be ok to remove. I'm not sure what to do, and I can't find any examples of a before/after removal. Should I get it removed? I really dislike it but I don't want to make the area look worse. My other eye looks great. Thanks

This should not be something complicated to remove and a short office procedure.

Make sure your surgeon is comfortable with this.

Occasionally, a small dog ear can remain after upper lid blepharoplasty. It is usually easily excised with a better resulting scar. The chance that it could be worse is minimal in expert hands.

The bump looks like it could be a small cyst under the skin rather than a true dog ear, which is excess skin. Either way, it should be able to be revised without making things worse.

You would be wise to consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist.   Scalpel Sculpting, which removes the protruding surface and leaves the treated area flush with the surrounding normal skin, is one method for dealing with this. A second method would be to use low intensity electrocautery to flatten the bump so that the treated area becomes flush with the surrounding skin. Both methods are performed using only local anesthesia and can be performed in a matter of only a few minutes. Hope this helps and best of luck.
