I had an otoplasty almost 6 months ago. Initially the antihelix seemed huge, however my doctor said we need to look at the results later, as they were swollen and needed to recover. Now at the 6 month mark, my antihelix still seems to be protruding a lot and looks unnatural. Could you tell me what do you think of these results?

Answer: I agree that your antihelix protrudes too far.
Prominent ears are caused by cartilage that is too large and sections of the cartilage, which have not folded correctly. An otoplasty procedure allows the cartilage to be set backward toward your scalp, to reduce its prominence, as well as to fold the cartilage with sutures so that the contours...
Sutures can extrude in 3 to 5% of patients who undergo otoplasty surgery. I believe it would be excessive to leave this alone for 2 years. We have seen suture Extrusion after 6 months, like you have, and removing these stitches have not resulted in a change in ear appearance. I hope this helps!...
The good news is that removing these stitches 4 years after your procedure not lead to a change in your ear appearance. Removing these sutures is relatively straightforward in the office with local anesthetic. Wishing you well. Sincerely, Dr Joseph
