Good Day. Thank you for your question.Smoking is not good for wound healing. The carbon monoxide limited oxygen carrying for one month before surgery and causes shrinkage of blood vessels (vasoconstriction) for two weeks prior to surgery and during its use.So stopping smoking before any surgery for one month is preferred. Also, after surgery all wounds need a minimum of two weeks for increased strength (10% of normal strength at one week, 20% at two weeks and the scar is never more than 80% of the normal skin strength long term).Additionally, smoking and using a straw contracts the oral sphincter (orbicularis oris muscle) and may move the implant in its dissected compartment to a minor degree, creating a non-centered implant. The movement is only 1-2 mm, however, some patients 2-3 mm can make the lip appear asymmetric.Lip gloss and moisturizer is good immediately after surgery to prevent the lip skin from cracking and increasing the risk of infection. I would reframe from lipstick adjacent to the incision for two weeks to allow for adequate incision healing to prevent wound disruption during the application and any risk of bacteria contamination.Best of luck to you.
