Hello, I am a 25 year old female and I have genetic dark circles. I already have Restylane fillers to fill in the hollows and treat the darkness caused by shadow. However, I still have dark pigment around my eyes. My question is whether it is worth to use PRP treatment to lighten the pigment under my eyes and eyelids. Is it effective?
Answer: PRP tear trough Hi @krystalromero! I recommend PRP injections. PRP which stands for Platelet Rich Plasma is a natural and non-surgical solution to treat under eye circles and bags. PRP is highly effective for restoring sunken eyes. Generally, two vials of blood will be collected from the patient and placed into a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins and separates the platelets from the rest of the blood components. The plasma contains the valuable collagen and growth factors from the rest of the blood's components. The plasma is then drawn up into a syringe and injected in the tear trough area. Typically, 3-6 sessions is adequate for optimal results. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

Answer: PRP for under eyes Under eye darkness varies by individual and treatments will be variable as well. Some patients may benefit from an under eye chemical peel for skin tone correction, some will benefit from brightening topicals, and others will benefit from PRP. Some will benefit from a combination of treatments. For under eye darkness, I would suggest a short series of PRP injections every 1-2 months for a few treatments total. PRP will add temporary (and mild) swelling to the under eyes which will reside in about 3 days to one week depending on the amount injected. Many of my patients have seen improvements to their dark under eyes with PRP injections and some have even mixed their PRP with filler for both brightening skin and long term shadow correction. Regardless, I strongly suggest that you seek in-person consultation with an experienced Facial Plastics physician injector who has thorough understanding of face anatomy.

Answer: Dark Circles Under the Eyes // Under Eye Hollows -- Combination of Fillers, Lasers, Microneedling/PRP, Cosmelan, Stem Cells Hi Krystal, there are many things you can do to treat under eye hollows and dark circles, but a combination approach will give the most improvement. Non-invasive, less-downtime options such as fillers, lasers, microneedling with PRP, Cosmelan peels and stem cells can all help give some improvement. I suggest getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist to see what is best for you and your goals. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Under Eye Darkness Thank you for your message! PRP is a great option for the under eye area. Typically multiple treatments are needed for full effect. Usually for the under eye area a combination of treatments works best. This would include laser resurfacing, chemical peels, microneedling with PRP or PRP alone, and dermal fillers.

Answer: PRP for genetic dark circles Thanks for your question because it is one of the most common complaints I see. The lighting makes it a little difficult to evaluate in your photo so an in-person consultation would be more helpful, but in general best results involve using multiple methods. I usually employ topical skin brighteners with PRP injections if there is mild volume loss or a combination of PRP and fillers or fillers alone along with topical skin brighteners. I have used microneedling also in selected patients but it can cause hyperpigmentation in some. Of course these treatments as all others require maintenance for continued results.
