Can platelet rich plasma cause melasma?

PRP has not been shown in research to cause Melasma. PRP does cause lightening of the skin tissues which may have caused a darker pigment to appear more pronounced. Thank you for your message! PRP does not typically cause darkening of the skin. Any type of needle injection can cause a bit of hyperpigmentation. Laser resurfacing, however, can cause hyperpigmentation, meaning certain areas get darker. Typically this risk is higher in those with darker skin tones. I would recommend a follow up with your provider for further assessment!
