I had Botox and the nurse assistant rubbed my forehead a little too hard. What do you think?

It is unlikely that rubbing on the injection site will impact the result of your treatment.  Wait about a week for your results to come in and if you continue to have any concerns at that point, I would recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with your provider to go over your results.

Thank you for sharing your question.  In most instances the rubbing will not materially impact your results, but only time will tell as the Botox settles in over 2 weeks.  Hang in there and allow your results to mature.  Best wishes.

Assuming the Botox was injected properly, a nurse rubbing your forehead after the injection should not cause the Botox to migrate.  Wait about a week for your results to come in and if you continue to have concerns at that point, I would recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with your provider to go over your results.

It usually takes 2 weeks to see the full and final results.

It is highly unlikely that rubbing the skin will cause any adverse effect.  The belief that touching injection sites after Botox alters the effect of the medication is not entirely evidence-based.  

Thank you for your question. I have not seen any issue with massaging injection sites. Sometimes pressing or massaging is needed after Botox to help minimize bruising.Do not worry at all and I hope you love your results.

while there are many different instructions following Botox injections, I have never seen an issue related to massaging the injections sites.  I purposely press at the site of injection to massage the Botox into the muscle and also help limit any bruising. Dear Karley416,Thanks for your question. You didn’t mention how long it had been since this happened. If it has already been four days and you aren’t seeing any negative effects you are probably fine. It can take up to two weeks to see the full effects of Botox, but it is very unlikely that rubbing your forehead will have any negative effects. I wouldn’t worry too much. 

I don't think it matters. There is too much misinformation about injections and rubbing the forehead is not likely to cause a problem.

Thank you for your question karley416. I understand your concern. Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with facial expression. When injected into the skin Botox will relax the muscles and smoothen out the overlying wrinkles. The most common areas of treatment are in the upper face. These include the horizontal lines seen on the upper forehead when one raises the brows, the vertical lines seen between the brows when one frowns (frown lines), and the crow's feet seen around the eyes when one smiles.It is difficult to make an assessment without a formal exam in the office where I can view the skin in multiple angles and observe wrinkles formed with facial expression. However, I hope the information provided here is useful.With any injection there may be some bleeding and it is normal to wipe it off. Sometimes it if more difficult to rub it off and requires more force. If I had a patient with the concern described here I would not worry about the results.With any injection, there are risks such as pain, bleeding, bruising, redness, swelling, tenderness, and infection. We take special precautions to minimize these risks such as using a painless technique. We also treat bruises with a laser as early as the next day. Bruises usually resolve within two weeks if untreated. After a laser treatment bruises usually resolve in 1-3 days, but may still take two weeks for full resolution. In addition to these risks, with Botox there is also a risk that the product spreads or diffuses to nearby structures. Spread to nearby muscles can lead to side effects such as the temporary appearance of droopy eyelids or a temporary asymmetric smile.

After a Botox treatment, I recommend that my patients avoid heat exposure, alcohol consumption, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours and not lie down flat for four hours. This is because all of these activities may possibly lead to the movement of the product and consequent side effects such as droopy eyelids. Although there have been no definitive studies shown that these actually occur and some physicians do not provide such aftercare instructions, in the absence of data I err on the side of caution and recommend that my patients avoid such activities.
