HI anna, I typically tell my patients to avoid heavy exercise with their arms for 6 weeks post surgery. They should also avoid any exercise that can get their blood pressure up for at least 3 weeks post surgery so that they do not start a bled. With regard to getting into a pool of contaminated water- Yes- a public swimming pool is a bed of bacteria- I would be sure that you are completely healed before allowing any organisms inside your breast implant pocket.Best,Dr. Christine Rodgers
I think it is clearly safe to go swimming about 7 to 10 days after your sub muscular breast augmentation. When I say this, I mean mostly gentle activity. You seem very active and in this situation, I might ask a patient to wait a few weeks prior to straining this much.
Hi there, Thank you for your question. We tell our patients they can resume activities at 6 weeks. Please check in with your surgeon to see what is recommended for you. Best, realdrsix
Thank you for your question. This is a great question, do not go in any body of water (bath, hot tub, swimming pool, lake, etc) at all until your incisions are completely healed. This is meaning no scabbing or anything, this typically takes 2-3 weeks after surgery. At that point you need to check with your doctor to see if you are healed enough to go swimming for exercise. I would suggest easing back into it when you do start swimming again, you don't want to swim 2 miles probably at 3 weeks post op. Listen to your body and let pain be your guide, and don't over do it.If you would like more information regarding breast augmentation and the recovery process you can download a free copy of my breast augmentation planner at aBetterBreast.com. In my practice we encourage patients to wait 6-8 weeks before swimming in any body of water including pools, hot tubs, lakes or oceans. Even at that point it is important to watch for breaks or cracks in the incision lines to avoid potential bacterial exposure. When you begin swimming I'd advise to shower and cleanse the incision lines afterward for added precaution. As far as chest and arm exertion, I would recommend waiting at least 6 weeks and gradually increase your exercise as tolerated.
Every surgeon has their personal preference regarding post-operative limitations. The majority will require the incisions be fully healed and the breast pocket established (several weeks post-op) before releasing a patient to resume exercise. Make sure you discuss this question with your surgeon prior to having your surgery so both of you are on the same page regarding post-operative limitations.
In general, plastic surgeons ask their patients to refrain from physical activity that moves the pectoralis major muscle (chest muscle) after submuscular augmentation. In my practice, I have my patients refrain from lifting over 5 lbs or activities that activate the pectoralis muscle for 4 weeks, until the capsule, or protective shell, around the implant forms. I would advise though that you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss post operative restrictions after breast augmentation.
I advise my patients to wait 4to 6 weeks before gradually getting back into exertional exercise, includinglap swimming. Of course, all of thewounds must be closed at this time to discourage the possibility of a water-borninfection. As always, break into it gradually and do not exceed your level ofcomfort.
Thanks for your question! Just as choosing a plastic surgeon is important, preparing for after your surgery is also an important step to your recovery. While each board-certified plastic surgeon has their own post-op recovery recommendations, during my +30 years of experience, I tell my patients...
So far so good! Keep doing what you're doing and you can resume light exercise. No arms and chest! You seem to be healing well and the breast implants are falling into place perfectly.
I would suggest having your surgeon pierce your belly button after he finishes the breast augmentation part of your procedure. You will be asleep and feel no pain. I do this all the time for patients who want piercings: tongue, belly button, nipple, etc. This is a very simple thing for a goo...
