Are you able to define and reduce a thick skinned nose drastically?

Without photos, it's hard to give a great answer, but you can make nice improvements in noses that are overly large, even if the skin is thick. There are limitations, but the tip can be made smaller and better supported, a bridge can be built up and bones brought in, and the nostrils can be taken in as well. Be sure to see a rhinoplasty specialist for consultation.

It is very difficult to discuss this issue without in person evaluation or, at least, a series of good photos. In general, rhinoplasty is going to change overall shape of the nose including some thining of the skin on the tip and dorsum of the nose. Postoperative care, including long term tapeing of the nose after surgery, will also help. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with expertise in rhinoplasty, is recommended. Hello, hope you are well. Thick skinned noses pose challenges in rhinoplasty, but there are reliable techniques to improve tip definition and position. SMAS debulking is one such technique that I employ for this purpose. Alarplasty is another patients with a wide nasal base. Although some physical reduction in size is achieved this way, another aspect of what makes the nose appear smaller is optical illusion. For example, augmenting a flat nasal bridge and creating a smaller, less rounded tip makes the nose look smaller because it has more structure and reflects less light back to the observer. It may not be possible to go from an XL nose to an S, but a step down in size is possible. It depends on what your expectations really are.

Hello! Thank you for your question.Without your face photos it is very hard to make an evaluation. Anyway, for thick skin patients it is possible to reduce the size a little, give more definition to the tip and make the nostrils smaller with an alar base plasty. Anyway, it totally depends on your case. If you have very thick skin, it is not realistic to expect a small button nose.

Rhinoplasty for thick skin the patient: A rhinoplasty can reduce the size and increase the definition of the nasal tip in patients with thick skin. It is more limited however than it is in patients with average or thin skin. There are some ancillary things that can be done to improve what a standard rhinoplasty alone cannot. in addition to the standard rhinoplasty the subcutaneous tissue below the skin can be trimmed to render the skin envelope in the tip area thinner. Postoperatively Cortizone injections to the tip and the area above the tip called the supratip can be employed to reduce further the width and increase the definition of the tip area. you use the expression “button nose“. I’m not sure what you mean by this, but if you are picturing a tiny nose with a thin tip it is not the likely outcome in someone with thick skin.
