Small lips, big teeth. What do my lips need? (Photo)

Question

I have a really small mouth but very large teeth. I've had braces twice AND maxillofacial jaw surgery so we're all out of options there. I really dislike how big and gawky my teeth look and it's hard to close my lips over them. Do I need a lip implant, injections, or...?

Dear TallChickyThank you for your question and for providing photos. You have a lovely smile already but due to your own concerns I would recommend lip filler as a starting point. There are many different brands of lip filler but the best thing to do is find a board certified surgeon. Lip filler is temporary and lasts around 4-6 months. It would help you to get used to larger lips without having anything permeant, so if you do not like the look, you just have to wait for the filler to dissolve. A more permanent option is Permalip. I perform many of these procedures after my patients have previously tried out lip filler. Permalip is a small implant much like the texture of breast implants; which get inserted into your lips via a small incision in the corners. The downtime is quick however you may suffer with bruising and swelling afterwards for up to 2 weeks. I hope this help and you find the procedure which is best for you

One option you may want to try is Botox. BUT be careful ...you really need to find an expert in Botox injections! sometimes I do botox injection in the white lip, very small amount, to lower the upper lip a bit. The effect is to cover your upper teeth a bit more but keep in mind that it may change your smile. Not sure I would do lip implants since they may straighten your lip and may worsen the teeth show.

Hi, I have performed many lip augmentation procedures using dermal fillers or lip implants for over 30 years. From the photos, your lips are very thin. Following the beauty principles outlined in my book on face and body beauty, the upper lip should be approximately 75 % the size of the lower lip for the lips to appear balanced. The lips can be augmented using a dermal filler or a Permalip implant.

Dermal filers and lip implants offer far more reliable volume to augment the lips than permanent fillers or fat injections that are also associated with increased, unwanted, side effects.
