I am getting a breast reduction in February. I'm totally excited but a bit concerned about scarring. I have done extensive research and have decided to use silicone scar sheets along with maderma. In your opinion, what is the best brand of the silicone scar sheets? ScarAway? ScarFX? NewGel+? Help please.
Answer: Scar sheeting and Silagen are my preferences to treat breast reduction and abdominoplasty scars Thanks for your question. I have used a number of different products. I like the Silagen system and particular their gel product. I think the Silagen along with massage is the most beneficial. Scar sheet material they make is also an excellent way to try and avoid wide and thickened scars in those prone to this. Most of the time scars heal as a function of tension and inflammation. As long as there is no excess tension and no prolonged inflammation with either irritation or infection, the scar should heal well. Using a scar product at the beginning is important as opposed to waiting until the scar is thickened. Best of Luck with your surgery!

Answer: Apply Plato's scar serum twice daily Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. All of these have their individual benefits. Most of all, we recommend you visit a solid plastic surgeon who understands surgical scar revision, laser therapy, and RF therapy for scars. Answer: Any Strip you want! Silicone scar strips are an excellent way to manage scars in the early stages after surgery. the brand makes absolutely NO difference. It is patient preference. Some are shaped, some stick better than others. As long as they are true silicone, get whatever looks the best to you. Good luck with your upcoming procedure!
