Thyroid problem. Can it be connected with a breast reduction?

I just found out I have a thyroid problem. Can it be connected with a breast reduction. Ive never had any medical problems in my life and im 66 years old. No medications do I take at all. A friend of mine told me a breas reduction at my age can cause a thyroid to go bad. Is this true. The plastic surgeon butchered out all my fat and tissue so im mainly all implant. Could the thyroid problem be due to the breast reduction. Thankyou.

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear of your thyroid problem.  Unfortunately, I am unaware of any connection between breast reductions and the development of thyroid issues.  I would definitely speak with your endocrinologist or thyroid surgeon to discuss your concerns.  They will better be able to provide you with reassurance.

Hello, dear, thanks for your post and provided information as well. Thyroidism is easily treated with medication usually by an 
endocrinologist. once they are happy with the medication level for  your
 thyroid supplementation, you should be able to safely undergo surgery. I suggest to make an appointment with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to talk about this and also with an endocrinologist for a treatment. Good luck :)

Thank you for the question and while I am sad to hear you had a bad experience with a breast reduction, there is no association of thyroid disease with breast surgery.  So see an endocrinologist and be worked up for your thyroid problem.Dr. Corbin

Hello and thank you for your question! While I'm not happy to hear about your thyroid disease, I am glad to tell you that I am not aware of any association between the thyroid and a breast reduction. It is possible that your body is changing as our hormone levels always do. Hopefully, your endocrinologist will be able to treat you conservatively with medication and your thyroid will quickly regulate.Best of luck to you and I hope you get to feeling better very soon!
