I am currently 21, a size 32 HH, 5'7 in height, and weigh 177 lbs. I have had serious issues with constant swelling and spasming in my trapezius muscles in between my neck and shoulders, since I was in high school and was a size 32 F and 132 lbs. My doctors always told me it was stress related, but the bigger my breasts got, the more my muscles hurt. Is there a direct correlation or are my muscles only swollen and spasming because of stress?

Answer: Are the size of my breasts the cause of my trapezius muscle pain? I appreciate your question. Yes, this is quite possible. Back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, bra strap grooving, and even rashes under the breast can all improve with breast reduction. If you are considering surgery, the best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative breast surgery. Best of luck! Dr. Schwartz

Answer: Trapezius pain Hi Strawberrybubble. Sorry to hear that you have been so uncomfortable. It is very possible that your discomfort may be attributable to the weight of your breast. In addition to the social problems associated with large breasts, it is well established that they can cause physical pain. Fortunately, clinical studies have demonstrated that back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, bra strap grooving, and even rashes under the breast can improve with a breast reduction. I would encourage a formal consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Best of luck.
