Under eye filler made bags and dark circles worse. Should I be charged to dissolve this? (Photo)

Question

4 weeks ago I had filler under my eyes. It has made my bags and dark circles worse. I read before I had them done that the fillers used (I was given volbella) can actually cause bags by drawing in water under the eyes. I'm having it dissolved in a few days by the same doctor that did it. I'd like to try it again with an actual plastic surgeon but maybe I'm not a good candidate for it, but I also think this doctor just did a really bad job. Should I be charged to dissolve this? I've included pictured.

Hi,In my practice, when a result with filler is mutually determined to be unsatisfactory, I do NOT charge to dissolve the filler and I will frequently not charge the patient to re-inject when necessary. It is hard to tell if you are a good candidate without an in person exam. I also inject the under eyes exclusively with Restylane-L.Best,

Had you gone to a plastic surgeon who is well-versed with the use of fillers they would have told you right away that none of the Juvederm products should be injected into the lower eyelid or problems such as yours will be a result. My patients are recommended having only fat transferred into the lower eyelid area for safety and permanency of the result. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City

I'm sorry to hear you are not happy with your results.  There is no hard and fast rule in this situation.  Every office should have a well defined policy regarding patients that are unhappy or unsatisfied after treatment.  I believe that every surgeon wants their patients to be happy and is willing to try within reason to get you a good result.  This may have happened if the filler is placed too superficially, and I agree that dissolving with hyaluronidase is a good first step.  Much if your issue is skin texture and tone which is not solved with filler alone.  You will need some topical skin care and possibly other treatments to better treat this issue.  Best of luck.

Unfortunately it all depends on the clinic where you had the fillers done. There is a cost associated with Hyaluronidase (Hyalase) which is used to dissolve the filler. In our clinic we do dissolve unwanted fillers and we charge our customers to correct or dissolve unwanted fillers.
 When I inject the filler, I do explain to the patients that in case they are not happy we are able to dissolve the filler for an agreed price.

Different patients react to different fillers, however volbella is less used around the eye area and softer ones are used more frequently like Bolatero restylane and juviderm.
Giving a little time to settle the filler in is something I encourage and many times the areas are reinjected
