I am awaiting approval from my insurance for a breast reduction. I often come across comments about some people having lipo on the sides in conjunction with their breast reduction. What decides a BR w/lip as opposed to just having a BR? Thank you.
Answer: Breast Reduction & Liposuction It's a decision made by your surgeon to achieve the ideal shape. Some women have excess fat around the sides that needs to be "smoothed" out. Ask your surgeon whether or not it is right for you. Best, Dr. Nazarian

Answer: Lipo with breast reduction In my opinion liposuction under the arm is often beneficial. Many women have a better result after this because large breasted women often have some fullness under their arms that is not addressed with the reduction alone. This also helps limit the extent that the scar has to extend laterally. The bigger question is insurance coverage for this as they often will not pay for it. This would be something you should discuss with your surgeon. Best of luck.

Answer: Liposuction with breast reduction HelloI commonly do liposuction on the sides of the breast and the area in front of the armpit, at the same time as breast reduction. This can really help to shape the breast. It can also smooth the junction between the side of the breast (where tissue is removed during the reduction) and the side of the chest wall (where many women have a "roll" or fullness, which is, unfortunately, fat!) Please discuss with your surgeon whether or not you would benefit from liposuction at the time of your reduction. After examining you, he/she can help you decide.Best wishes.

Answer: Liposuction with Breast Reduction Dear EmpressTheadora,Women with larger breasts often have a roll of fat that continues along the lateral chest wall that becomes more obvious to them once the breast is made smaller. This is most obvious in patients who undergo mastectomies where the breast is completely removed. Patients have asked "Why did you put that there?" or "Why did you leave that?" because they didn't notice it before when their large breast covered it from the front. Because it is not part of the breast and is located too far lateral, liposuction is a great option to reduce the fullness. This can be done later if you personally don't feel it warrants the extra cost at this time, because I am pretty sure your insurance company will not cover this portion of the procedure.Breast reduction is a great procedure and I hope you are very happy with yours!

Answer: Why would lipo on the sides be needed for a Breast Reduction? Some patients with large breast have a roll of fat tissue on the sides of the chest and if they want this area contoured (it is not part of a routine breast reduction) liposuction is a good alternative, In our practice there is no extra charge for this, but other offices may have a different policy.
