Can I take ibuprofen one full day after lip fillers?

Hi,Thank you for your question.There is no hard and fast rule about NSAIDs after filler treatment but most offices will err on the safe side and recommend avoiding them for 24-48 hours after injection and definitely 2 weeks prior to any injection, if possible.  Swelling after lip fillers is very common and will subside on its own.Hope this helps!

There are no strict guidelines for avoiding NSAIDS after lip filler, but in my practice we suggest avoiding for several days afterwards.  Late onset bruising is possible even 24-48 hours after any procedure.  Best Dr. Anil Shah

Swelling after lip injections is completely normal and may take days to resolve. You likely have some discomfort from the injections and swelling, also normal. I would try to use Tylenol for discomfort instead of any product containing aspirin or ibuprofen for 48 hours after the injections to potentially minimize additional swelling associated with bleeding.  Apply cold compresses to the treated area for 5 – 10 minutes every hour to help decrease the swelling. It is totally fine to take any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (Ibuprofen, Alleve) 24 hours after an injection. We recommend not taking any NSAIDs a week before planning to be injected, but after the injection has been completed, these medications will not affect any bruising. The anti-inflammatory component can synergistically improve swelling in combination with an antihistamine.

Each injector has their own postprocedural care protocol that they recommend for their patients.  I ask that patients not take ibuprofen if possible for a week prior to the injection, but after the injection it should not have much ill effect.  The concern with ibuprofen, or any NSAID for that matter, is that it thins the blood to a degree and can increase the risk of bleeding/bruising.  This is usually more of an issue prior to the injection, but some injectors prefer it to be avoided after as well.  The likelihood is that if you take it you will be totally fine, but I would keep in mind that it probably will not reduce the swelling significantly if that is what you are taking it for.  After lip injections it is rare for the swelling to persist for more than 5 days, so the safest bet may be to just try to wait it out.  When in doubt always reach out to your injector and get their opinion.  I hope this helps, good luck!!
