Botox TM contains 0.5 mg human serum albumin per 100 IU vial. Other preparations of botulinium toxin (all neuromodulators) also contain some amount of human serum albumin (Dysport, Xeomin and Myobloc). The risk of transmitting viruses such as Hepatitis A,B, and C, and non-A non-B hepatitis, and HIV is considered extremely remote, but there is an extremely remote possibility that some prion causing disease (Creutzfeld-Jakob) may be transmitted in the preparation because prions are not inactivated by current sterilization methods. With the injection of human albumin, there is also a possibility of inducing a hypersensitivity reaction resulting in symptoms such as fever, chills, hives, and flu like symptoms.Obviously a Jehovah's Witness patient would want to know about albumin in the neuromodulator used.Dr. Anna Sylwestrowicz MD, FRCP(C)Victoria, BC
All neuromodulators such as botox ,on the market to date have human albumin . Can I ask what the concern is regarding human albumin ? Human albumin is used in many medical preparation including vaccines with quality control to ensure risk of blood borne disease or allergy is negligible if not zero
I am not aware of cases of Botox wearing off quickly when there was a much quicker onset of action. The few patients I have in whom Botox wears off in between 4 and 8 weeks do not see it starting to work before all the other patients whose Botox treatments lasts 3 to 4 months.
Our bodies do heal on their own time table. Within one to two weeks you should improve from a contact dermatitis. Follow up with your treating physician if you don't see any change in a week. You may also inquire about a Medrol Dosepak.
The only two things that usually drip onto your skin is a little trickle of blood which you would know what it is or a small amount of Botox.
