Should I or should I not allow corrugator resection during my brow lift? (Photo)

Question

I'm about to get a brow lift, and the doctor is suggesting a corrugator resection because I have very strong corrugator muscles. I'm torn because I had a different surgeon advise against it saying that it will look unnatural even though my corrugator muscles are strong. I'm not sure what to do. The surgeon performing the surgery thinks I will still have some movement after despite the resection, but she'll do whatever I feel most comfortable doing.

I have dividend and weakened the corrugators over a thousand times without any problems at all with an unnatural motion or appearance.  The muscle activity is weakened but not eliminated.  However I approach the corrugators through an upper blepharoplasty which I almost always include as part of a browlift and it is easier through that approach. Based on your photos I Woukd recommend it.  I do think it is important to not try to remove the entire muscle.

I routinely resect the corrugators at the time of browlift.  There really is no contra-indication to that.

It is very difficult to excise complete corrugated muscle even through open brow lift approach. In most cases corrugated resection is done to weaken rather than completely remove these  muscles. Good luck

Corrugator resection with browlift? If properly done by an experienced FFS surgeon you should benefit from this. In over 5000 of these procedures I’ve never had the complication you described.

In our practice, most patients undergoing a forehead lift undergo some degree of corrugator resection percentage to reduce the depressor effect of the muscle itself on the eyebrow position. In addition to your corrugators, it's important to have a conversation about the frontalis muscle, the asymmetry level of your eyebrows, the dermal atrophy present in the photographs and placement of the incision itself, in regards to your high hairline. These are all issues that need to be addressed before you undergo the procedure.
