Is it safer and better to have both upper and lower eyelids done at the same time?

If you need both upper and lower blepharoplasty, it would be preferable to do them at the same time because you will only have one recovery period to go through and it may also lower the expense of surgery. However, if you don't yet need one of these procedures, it is perfectly fine to wait and have it at another time. I hope this helps.

It is equally safe to have upper and lower blepharoplasty together or separately. However, it is much easier to have them together since patient will go through one surgery and recovery process rather than twice.

Since most blepharoplasty procedures are performed under local anesthesia, the safety factor really doesn't come into play much.  If you are a good candidate for both upper and lower blepharoplasty, it would be my preference to have both performed simultaneously so that you have one recovery period instead of two.  I make my incision in the natural crease of the upper lid, and depending on physical exam factors, will make an incision below the lashes on the lower lid or inside the lower lid.  Recovery is generally 5-7 days.  I use Occumend pads, which contain 50x the normal over the counter concentration of Arnica Montana and Ledum to help with post-operative bruising and swelling.  It's a well tolerated procedure.  Check out some of my videos and photos for further information.  Be sure to see a board certified facial plastic surgeon, occuloplastic surgeon, or plastic surgeon.

Hello.  If you are a candidate for upper and lower blepharoplasties, I don't see a problem with doing everything in one setting.  If you're thinking of improving both upper and lower eyelids, might as well have one recovery vs. two.  However, upper & lower blepharoplasties can be safely done under local anesthesia and staging them is a reasonable option if you desire.  It's best to find a board certified surgeon with experience in blepharoplasties for a good in office exam and discussion of your concerns.  Good luck.

If you are a good candidate for both upper and lower blepharoplasty, most patients prefer to do the procedures on the same day.  Combining the surgery can cut down on expenses such as facility and anesthesia fees, and some surgeons offer a better price if you elect to do both at the same time.  Another benefit of doing the surgeries together is only having one recovery period, but you could do both procedures separate if you prefer.

It is usually best to have both upper and lower lids done at the same time, as long as they both need to be performed and you will get your money's worth out of doing it. There are some cost savings combining both upper and lower lids together with regards to the operating room and anesthesia. In addition,  there will be one recovery period of visible bruising and swelling for two weeks. Performing them separately will be a total of four weeks of visible bruising and swelling, therefore most patients do them together, rather than separately. I think it is safe to perform upper and lower blepharoplasties at the same time.  You can stage them if you wish but you will have two recovery times compared to one.  Best wishes.
