How does the drain hole heal after the drain is removed?

I have an incision in which the doc has place a drainage tube, for the rest of uncessary fat/blood..I would like to know when the tube is remove how does the hole(small)) heals. Can my primary care doc remove the drain once its finish or no

I don't use drain's with fat transfer procedures. All of your postoperative care including drain care should be handled by your plastic surgeon. If your having a procedure performed in another country or a far away site, you will need to arrange for quality postoperative care for when you arrive home. Better yet, choose a qualified BCPS in your area or geographic location (driving distance). The $$ you save traveling to distant places is not worth the risk of a complication with no one to care for you.Be Careful Please

Thanks for your question -Typically we don't use drains for fat transfer.  However - most of the time your follow-up is best managed by your plastic surgeon - including drain removal.I hope this helps.

Usually drain incisions collapse once the tube is removed within 48 hours. The elasticity of the skin will bring the edges together. Most surgeons prefer to remove their drains , only in cases of overseas surgery , and when the drain is not ready to be removed at your departure time , will you need to remove it yourself ( with doctors advice) or go to your primary doctor or nurse to have it removed.Most drains are ready to be removed in less than 6 days .Best wishes
