Do you tend to see good results after one CoolSculpting treatment?

Question

I’m on limited income but about to have cool sculpting done on my abs and back. I’ve always carried weight in my bra and mid back area and after child birth my stomach just doesn’t want to tighten the way o want. Do or can people see good results with one cool sculpting treatment?

On average CoolSculpting reduces the fat within the treatment area by 20-25% per treatment. The number of CoolSculpting sessions will vary based on the thickness of the fat layer, individual patient response and patient treatment goals. If you are close to your ideal weight you may see your desired results with just one treatment, however most of our patients typically need at least two.

This is difficult to answer without pictures. Coolsculpting is good for removing stubborn areas of fat, but some people need more than one treatment to get improvement. Keep in mind, for best results with Coolsculpting, a combination approach is needed. I recommend adding radiofrequency treatments like Vanquish for skin tightening and with Z wave/Cellutone for skin smoothing. However, Vaser with ThermiRF procedure is the best combination for a toned result, but requires more downtime. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Hi.  Thanks for the question.  Without pictures it's hard to say if one treatment would be enough for you.  However, in my experience, most areas need to be treated at least two times to get the WOW results most patients are looking for.  One treatment tends to leave patients saying, "Yeah, I see results, but..."
You need to work this out before you spend money on something that may not be what you are looking for.

Thank you for your question. While you can see  results after one CoolSculpting session, the best results usually are seen after several sessions. The best person to ask is your CoolSculpting provider because they have examined your tissue. The reason for this is because they will examine you and be able to estimate how many sessions it may take for you to achieve the results you desire. Keep in mind that it takes up to three months to see your final results, as the treatment relies on your body’s natural processes to deliver results. Good luck!

You can have a really nice outcome associated with one CoolSculpting treatment. The improvement depends on the amount of fat you have in a given location and how much loose skin you have. Seeing a skilled provider for a consultation will give you a great deal of insight into just how much treatment you will need, and how much it will cost. With 4 Coolsculpting machines in my practice, my coolsculpting specialists frequently encounter this question and are happy to say, “Yes!” Our patients have a great success rate with one session, which usually can reduce an average of 20-25% of fatty volume in one session. Remember, one session may include multiple panels of varying sizes, depending on how much volume you may have in the areas. Sometimes, depending on the amount of volume and the patient’s expectations, we may perform a secondary session at approximately 2-3 months after the initial session. More often than not, our patients are very satisfied with their initial treatment and less than half of our patients proceed with an additional session in the same treatment area. We also like to share our vast library of before and after photos of our ACTUAL patients we have treated with new patients so that they can appreciate the level of improvement and be confident in our treatment plan. We do recommend most patients plan on the two sessions, as this is where we see the most dramatic and satisfactory result. We find the 2nd treatment has a way of helping the first treatment results be more visible and then the final results is 3 months after all treatments are complete. If the area doesn't have a large amount of fat and they are able to overlap the applicators and do a very thorough treatment plan for the first session, you may be happy with the one. This is also dependent on your goals and expectations.

You can learn more about the number of sessions you would need to meet your expectations during a consultation. Ideally during a liposuction case a surgeon can remove 100% of the fat cells in a given area but CoolSculpting gets rid of 20-25% in one treatment. It's very common that patients need more than one treatment.

Great question, but the answer can be a little more complicated than just "yes". CoolSculpting is a great non-invasive permanent fat removal treatment. A single treatment will remove 20-25% of the fat under the area where the applicator is placed. It does not help to tighten skin so you have to be realistic about what you can achieve with a single treatment. Sometimes there is more than just excess fat deposition present. For instance, after childbirth, tummies can look different because of loose skin or stretched-out muscles and the CoolSculpting will not help these problems. I would strongly recommend that before you spend your money,  get a consultation with a physician who is experienced in assessing the abdomen and back areas who can give you lots of information about what your specific problems and the likelihood that a single treatment will help. I see lots of patients who went to a clinic where they never saw a physician, just an assistant who knows only to put a CoolSculpting applicator on, and then those patients were disappointed that they did not achieve the results that they had thought they would be getting for the money that they had paid. Since results depend on the amount of fat that is there to start with, ask your physician to show you photos of people similar to your size and shape that have been treated personally by him or her so you can get a realistic idea of what you may look like.
