How will taking prednisone affect post-facelift recovery?

I agree with the other doctors that short term prednisone should not have significant impact on healing from your facelift.

Your prednisone therapy should not significantly interfer with the healing progress after your facelift procedure. Sometimes it may even spead up resolution of swelling (although it is not used for this because of other unwanted side effects).

A round of steroids for sciatic pain should have no significant effect on the progress of healing after a facelift.

A short course of steroids after a facelift will usually not be detrimental and can help alleviate some of the post-op swelling. At this point getting you comfortable from your sciatica is more important. Hopefully, you will be pain free soon.

At this point, a short course of oral steroids should not have a major impact on post-operative wound healing.  As to your question, you may see some slight improvement in your swelling, but I wouldn't expect that necessarily.  Best of luck.

The prednisone will help to decrease any residual inflammation so your swelling should improve.  So you should be fine taking the steroids.

Depends.If the course is brief (i.e. 5-6 days as commonly prescribed with a Medrol-dose pack) it will typically have no effect on healing (i.e., delayed healing).  The course of prednisone will actually improve swelling.  Another factor that plays a significant role in swelling weeks after surgery is sodium intake.  Limiting the amount to less than 1500 mg/day reducing water retention/swelling significantly in most patients.I hope this helps.

anecdotally, I give prednisolone to all my patients. I think it helps with post surgical inflammation.

I'm sorry to hear about the sciatica. Fortunately wounds typically reach 85% of their final strength by 3 weeks, so beginning prednisone at 5 weeks shouldn't be detrimental to your facelift healing. Of course, prednisone can sometimes have dramatic side effects, depending on the dosage and the duration of treatment. Make sure you discuss with the prescribing physician what to expect during your course of treatment, if you haven't already done so. Hope you're good as new soon.

Your sciatica treatment will take preference and hopefully this will be resolved shortly. It is unlikely that prednisone will affect the result and in fact some surgeons do give a dose to help reduce swelling during facelifting. As long as you are on small doses and do not need to take things long term then your result will not be affected.
