I am a 26F, height: 5’5, weight:124lb. I am slender with little excess body fat. When I am not talking, my neck area is angled correctly. But when I talk/laugh my neck angle slopes very much and becomes bulky and heavy looking. It makes my chin area slope down towards my collarbones, I notice other peoples chins slope towards their necks at a 90d angle instead (even if they are heavier than me). I was told by my injector that I have a weak chin. Is this a chin issue or a neck muscle issue? Thnx

Answer: Neck Issues Good Afternoon! It could be a slightly underprojected chin. By stretching the chin more, you can experience improvements in the submental skin, though not often drastic. This can be achieved with filler first, then an implant or genioplasty. Morpheus8 microneedling may be an option to provide some toning to your neck. FaceTite or NeckTite can work as well. Liposuction should be done very carefully to avoid any streaking or irregularities. I would start as minimally invasive as possible given your age and nice features. Hope this helps!

Answer: Submental fullness Thank you for your question. Most likely, when you're smiling or laughing, the platysma muscle is contracting, which makes the angle more oblique. Botox can be used to weaken the muscle, which may help with the appearance. A plastysma surgery can also be performed for a more permanent solution. I hope that helps, and all the best to you. -Dr. P
