It would be really fantastic if Doctors could share a successful chin implant removal (not replacement, not anything but removal) story and pictures with the group.
Answer: Chin implant removal Chin Implant removal information/and considerations: For the vast majority of chin implants, removal is straight forward most commonly using the same incision that was used to place it. The procedure is often done in the office with local anesthesia with or without some sedation, but also commonly done in the OR under IV sedation or general anesthesia per patient's and surgeon's preference. Most implants are silicone and are not adherent so slip out readily. Medpor, also called PTFE, may have tissue ingrowth and can be a bit more involved but still can be removed in the same manner. It is very helpful for your surgeon to review your prior surgical records to know the size and type of implant used. This may be obtained by contacting your prior surgeon's office or OR facility and request your prior surgical records. Expectations: if the chin implant was small and removed within the first few years chances are likely that you will return a similar size and shape as before. If the implant was small, the chin soft tissue usually shrinks back down without sagging. Often, there is still some gain once the implant is removed due to the scarring and capsule (lining your body makes around the implant) that gives some benefit. On the other hand a large implant placed many years ago, and other factors such as being elderly, having osteoporosis and perhaps smoking that can cause loss of underlying bone due to bony erosion from the pressure of the implant. In this case use of a natural filler such your fat or at times a bone graft may recommended for different reasons. Your surgeon may request a Panorex or lateral cephalometric x-ray to see if this is the case. Temporary fillers can also be tried such as Jeuvederm, Sculptra, Voluma, Volbella, etc. Most important of all make sure you pick a plastic surgeon with great expertise in #chinaugmentation and #chinimplantremoval. Answer: Implant removal I have on at least 2 occasions removed implants without replacement or further chin surgery. It would be helpful to know your cause for concern. Of note is that due to scar capsule formation with silicone implants (just like breast implants), there is usually still some residual "augmentation" of the chin. However, some irregularities can persist. Good luck in finding the answer you are looking for.

Answer: Can a doctor PLEASE share a successful chin implant REMOVAL story with the group? And pictures? Chin implants, when the correct size/style is used, are rarely removed. I have been performing chin implant surgery for over 20 years and have maybe removed 1 or 2 of my own patients! I have removed several implants over the years from patients who were not satisfied with the results of their procedures. If the implant is silicone, it can be easily removed. If the implant has been in a long time or if the patient has loose skin, you may need a little 'tuck'. Otherwise, the removal and recovery is fairly easy when performed by someone with much experience in chin implant surgery.

Answer: Chin Implant Removal Dear Chins, I answer a lot of questions on real self regarding chin implant removal and chin implant dissatisfaction however in my practice I find chin augmentation is a very simple procedure with minimal downtime and a very high success rate. I have only removed a few implants on my own patients in my thirty years of experience with this procedure. The reason for that I personally think is that I choose to perform this procedure with an external incision which allows itself to minimal problems and extremely reduces the risk of infection. This is also in my opinion due to choice of implant style, size and type of implant used. As surgeons we are only authorized to show photographs that patients consent to. I have successfully removed chin implants from many patients who are dissatisfied from other surgeons and the results are fine. Most patients are returned to their pre surgical condition and are as well very satisfied after removal. Some patients still have a degree of augmentation after removal due to the capsular formation of the implant. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
