I underwent septorhinoplasty a while ago due to a broken nose. I had issues breathing through my nose but it was much worse on the left side. After surgery, breathing improved overall but still much better on the right side. There are times when no air is coming in or out of the left side at all. The left side looks different as well.
Answer: Nasal valve collapse? Hi and welcome to our forum! The nasal valve relates to the tissue at the angle at which the upper lateral cartilage of the nose connects to the nasal septum. If the angle is decreased as the result of trauma, previous nasal surgery, or congenital anomaly, the airway will be restricted on inspiration as the lateral nostril collapses inward. An endonasal examination is required to confirm the diagnosis. It is one of multiple causes of nasal airway obstruction, including a residual displacement of the nasal septum, enlargement of the internal nasal turbinates, or allergic rhinitis.
