What's the difference between fat transfer to breast, and fat transfer to butt?

Question

I've seen many women with really flat butts go under a transformation and get a huge bum, with doctors just harvesting fat from other part of their body. Now as for fat transfer to the breast, any result I've seen was very subtle. Why is this so? What's different about the two? I've heard doctors say that a butt aug . with your own fat is permanent, but with the breast it could possibly not be? Is there actually science behind it or is it a marketing technique to sell implants??

Thank you for your question,which is indeed a good one.I see many patients in my clinic who ask me the same thing: why can you transfer such large volumes to the butt with good success, and at the same time tell me that I can only have a much smaller amount to the breast ?The answer to this is the difference in available recipient bed. When grafting to the buttocks, you can inject large volumes into the large gluteus muscle, which is a very sturdy and well perfused tissue. The better the vascularization of the recipient bed, the better the graft take will be. In the breast, you can only inject fat into the breast muscle (which is much smaller than the gluteus muscle) and underneath the skin (subcutaneous layer). The surgeon must never inject fat directly into the breast-to do so is absolutely not dangerous, but it can make life for radiologists very difficult, since confusion with (not creation of) malignant lesions can occur.Thus, the workable volume is far less.I hope that answer is satisfactory to you.

The technique for fat grafting to your butt and your breasts is the same.  It requires meticulous care in harvesting the fat through careful liposuction; gentle processing of the fat, and precision placement of individual fat droplets.  The results can be a full, natural, beautiful bottom or breast augmentation.  There are certainly things that your plastic surgeon will go over with you specific to your own needs and your cosmetic goals. As far as the difference between a butt lift and a breast augmentation, both can support fat transfer equally well and the differences that you talked about are more a preference of the patient and surgeon involved.   As far as fat survival, both sites are going to have similar success rates; the amount of which is based on several things, but likely the most important being the technique of your surgeon. More fat can typically be placed in the buttocks with proportionally more enlargement. Breasts are more difficult to augment to a large size usually although there are some technologies available such as the BRAVA device that allow more filling. Fat transfer to the butt and the breast are same in the sense that you aspirate fat and inject to selected part. They are different because the surface areas vary. Breasts take more finesse and with any fat grafting overcrowding the fat cells can keep them from regaining a blood supply in the new area. Typically the amount you transfer to a breast is half or less than half of what you would inject into the buttock.Thank you for your question, I hope this helps!
