Question

I've visited two doctors for lip augmentation. The first time the Nurse injector who does all the offices injections explained to me there was no difference between Juvederm Ultra Plus and Vollure, except duration. Otherwise they look the same. The second, the plastic surgeon I visited said that Vollure was different from Juvederm and that it doesn't give the type of volume I was seeking.... Which is it? What am I looking for, for the Instagram pout?

Thank you for your question. I recommend Juvederm for lips. The results are very nice and have a "plump" effect. I would advise you to consult with an expert injector.

Volbella, Restylane, and Juvederm are good fillers to use to create a symmetrical lip. NovaThreads can also be used to improve lift and shape. Implants or fat are alternatives. Technique will be important here, so you'll want to see someone meticulous. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for sharing your question.  Both products can supply a noticeable increase in lip size but if you are looking for an immediate IG pout than Ultra Plus is likely a better product for you.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question - Vollure and Juvederm Ultra Plus are very different fillers. They are both hyaluronic acid fillers, but Juvederm Ultra Plus is far more "plumping" than Vollure. Vollure gives more natural results. If you are looking for maximum plumping, I would recommend Ultra Plus. Vollure is longer lasting, but much more subtle.

Hi. It's hard to tell how many syringes of product you will need as you have not uploaded a picture of your lips in comparison to the goal picture. Juvederm Ultra Plus is a harder substance that will provide a bit more volume but also create a very high risk for lumps and bumps. I would highly recommend you treat with Vollure which is the longer lasting, softer, smoother, less risk of bumps product for the lips. The safest choice is to go with Vollure allow it to settle for two weeks and return if you would want more volume with a second syringe.

Thank you for sharing your ideal lips photo and your concerns.  Your plastic surgeon is correct that Juvederm Ultra (JU) or Ultra Plus (JUP) and Vollure are very different products.  JU and JUP are highly hydrophilic products, meaning they attract water.  As a result, these products typically have significant improvement for volume (“size”) of the lip.  Vollure is a wonderful product that can be used to enhance lip size but it is not as robust as the JU or JUP.  In addition, it spreads easily and often requires a greater number of treatments with 3-4 week spacing between visits to enhance lip size significantly.  In my practice, I combine several fillers to achieve a patient’s ideal goals.  Each filler has a different rheologic property that allows one to customize treatment.  A similar analogy is trying to color with a single Crayola crayon vs. 64 different crayons. Please see a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon who specializes in nonsurgical cosmetic procedures.  Ask him or her how many patients he or she treats for lip filler each week.  Make sure you review his or her actual patient lip filler photos (not those provided by the filler companies) and ask what was used and why.  Best of luck,Suneel Chilukuri, M.D.Houston, Texas
