This is a very general question and I would assume you mean for “medical clearance.” Most surgeons would require a blood count (CBC or H/H) along with electrolyte panel (Potassium alone or full panel). If you have medical problems you may be required to get an EKG, chest x-ray and/or medical clearance from another physician (PCP, cardiologist, etc.)The best advice I could give would be to select a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of ASPS or ASAPS. They will have the best ability to make sure you have a safe and successful procedure.
pre-operative simply means before surgery. More than anything else this should include an in person consultation assessing your candidacy for the procedure. This involves an examination, thorough history and potentially ordering tests or a valuations depending on what is appropriate for each individual. In reality most people don't need any tests before having elective cosmetic surgery but there is no substitute for a proper evaluation, exam and history. For people with underlying medical conditions things can be very different. Trying to make real self substitute for a proper consultation or preoperative visit is not a very good idea. Each provider will have their own protocols. Good luck, Mats Hagstrom MD
