I am a white male, age 35, height 6'1" with BMI less than 25 and weight of 190 lbs. For roughly 1.5 years, I have been bodybuilding and am noticing that I am unable to see my abdominal muscles due to a "tube" of loose skin around my waist. I was very obese from age 12 to 16. At age 15, my obesity peaked when I weighed 270 lbs. at height 5'8". I was not active at that time, hence it was all fat. I rapidly lost weight through diet and intense cardio, going down to 160 lbs. at age 16. Ever since, the skin around my waist, on my stomach and my flanks/sides has been loose and it exhibits stretch marks. I have occasionally had naval infections because the loose skin closes off the belly button. I was advised by a plastic surgeon to get a bodylift to tighten the skin around the waist (belt lipectony / bodylift). I would like to avoid surgery only if an alternative non-surgical treatment is equally effective in its ability to permanently remove the "intertube" around the waist. I understand that my case is probably not the worst anyone has ever seen, but my waist has bothered me now for 20 years and I want to have an abdomen that corresponds with my otherwise obvious physical fitness and healthy life style. Do surgeons here think a bodylift is warranted in my case? Would there be an equally permanent and effective non-surgical alternative? (In the photos, I am bulking. The skin is more pronounced when my weight/body is normal / average).

Answer: Best option for you is a 360 lower body lift Hello, and thank you for your question regarding whether you need a body lift or if there are equally affected non-surgical alternatives. Thank you for your history and your pictures. Due to your 110-pound weight loss, your skin has been stretched. The skin can only bounce back so much, even if you exercise and diet. Therefore, your best option is a 360 circumferential lower body lift. A 360 circumferential lower body lift is called a belt lipectomy or lower body lift. Since the skin has been stretched, the only solution is to remove the skin. There are no non-surgical alternatives to removing skin besides a 360 circumferential lower body lift. Most experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons specializing in the lower body lift would agree that you would get excellent results with a 360 circumferential lower body lift based on your history and photos. Good luck. I hope this information helps you find answers regarding the 360 circumferential lower body lift. If you have any more questions regarding the lower body lift, 360 circumferential lower body lift, belt lipectomy, belt abdominoplasty, or belt dermolipectomy, please get in touch with aa experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. Since the body lift is a big procedure, please seek an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon with significant experience performing the lower body lift. Do your research. Ensure they have performed at least 150 circumferential lower body lift surgeries and have the before and after pictures to prove it. Carefully examine their before and after pictures and check their reviews on RealSelf. If you cannot find an experienced, lower-body lift surgeon in your neighborhood, consider traveling out of state if you must. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen. Answer: Loose skin Dear AD203, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Based on your photos, it looks like you have a lot of loose skin so you will need surgery to get it removed. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.
