When I went to get a mammogram, I was informed it would be a good idea to get replacements. Mine are encapsulated at this point. When I received the implants, it was purely for cosmetic reasons. I don't have pain or discomfort, but I do want to ensure my health. Thank you for your information and time. Donna Schwier

It sounds like it would be a good idea to replace your implants and remove the scar tissue that is around them. While it is not completely necessary for health reasons as you are not having any discomfort, they will not improve. They will likely worsen with time. It is also likely that your implants are ruptured so it would be good to have that all cleaned out. Find a board certified plastic surgeon in your area to discuss your options and determine what is best for you. Best wishes!

After 26 years, if your implants are encapsulated, there is a good chance that they may be ruptured within the scar capsule itself.  This is not something that can be seen on mammogram at all, since the scar capsule holds the implant shell and contents in place ( like an egg shell).  There is nothing that says you have to change them if you are feeling fine, but I would recommend it. The implants used today are better designed than those 25 years ago and have much smaller chances of rupture long term, as well as lower encapsulation rates.  I hope this helps.
