If I have FUT surgery, I am concerned about scars that may be noticeable in the recipient area?

The recipient area (the area that receives the transplanted hair) will have minimal to no scarring whatsoever and once healed will be imperceptible. The donor site in FUT requires harvesting a strip of skin and hair, and based on the surrounding hair length will also be quite hidden. If the hair is close cropped or shaved in the donor area, then the scar may be more visible. Placing some sort of concealer cream in your hair to cover the scar would likely make the scar more noticeable. Best of luck. 

FUT or strip surgery is usually done with the hair kept long so it would not be noticeable to others from the back.  It is best to discuss the issue with your doctor for planning.

I allow my patients to wear a hat about a week after the procedure as long as they are healing well. I'm not aware of any creams that help.

No matter which method you choose, FUT or FUE, the recipient area will usually not have any visible scaring provided that a qualified and experienced surgeon is used. The only difference between the techniques is in the donor area. With respect to FUT the donor area is usually not shaved so it can be covered by the overlying hair, hence not visible the day of the surgery. With FUE with use .7mm punches, this heals in as early as 3-4 days and should  be little visible thereafter. The recipient area should be healed and little evidence remain in 7 days.

If you go to a top doctor and when done correctly, a hair transplant should not leave any visible scarring in the recipient area. 

I am not sure what is the problem so pictures would help. Once the crusts are off, you can use a concealer like toppik. FUT properly done like any hair transplant, will not cause scarring in the recipient area.
