Can mega hair transplants of close to 5000 grafts fail despite done by a skilled doctor?

Question

I would like to know if patients head might not be able to cope with so many grafts due to blood vessels creation and providing essential supplies for new hairs to grow and survive. I am norwood 6 bald and had a failure with mega hair transplant last year but got a 3000 graft transplant recently with a skilled doctor in bay area. I feel i can use beard hair and get crown area covered.

5000 grafts seem like an extreme amount of harvesting and the length of surgery time or graft out of the body time will contribute to growth and results.  It required extreme care and expertise of the doctor and staff.

It is possible for any size hair transplant to not grow. This is however, very rare in the hands of a skill surgeon and team. It is not possible to evaluate your situation with the little information provided. Would recommend that you visit with your surgeon and ask the question why this occurred. If you still do not get a satisfactory answer a second opinion might be needed. We have had numerous great outcomes with mega-sessions.

It is better to see your photos  in order to understand the problem you have,  and estimate how much graft do we need to cover area and cost of operation.

First of all, I do not know of any full-time hair transplant surgeons in the USA that would recommend 5,000 grafts in a single session. There are issues associated with over harvesting or harvesting outside the safe donor area. Continue your research, if you had a failure a year ago and a recent 3,000 unit session, I would have concerns about your donor area for another session.
