This is something your surgeon will want to advise you on, but my personal preference is tape for 6 weeks. gauze would be appropriate if there is any drainage from the wound.
Thank you for your question. Gauze and micropore that depends on the choice of surgeon, each has its indication depending on the type of injury you have in your tummy tuck and can indicate creams or powders to improve healing.I hope my answer will help you to your question. Before undergoing any surgical procedure, please seek a board certified plastic surgeon
In general gauze is used to wick away moisture from the incision. So it is often used for a few days after surgery to absorb any normal oozing. Once there is no oozing from the incision gauze really wont benefit you at all. Many plastic surgeons feel that tape is a beneficial scar management tool. I recommend my patients to use hypoallergenic paper tape on their incisions for 2-3 weeks and then have them begin using silicone sheeting or gel. Every surgeon will have a different opinion but I don't know of any who would recommend gauze dressings once the incision has been dry for some time.
I usually begin the healing process with Steri-Strip tapes on your incision. After about a week to 10 days as these tapes roll off, gauze would be more appropriate especially for areas that might have slight opening. If the entire wound remains dry just clean cotton underwear can cover the incision. if there is any opening or weeping then I would use a slight film of bacitracin or clear anti biotic ointment and some gauze. showering is always fine
The discussion regarding the safety of your surgery should occur between you, the plastic surgeon and the neurologist. Optimizing you condition prior to surgery and taking precautions after surgery should result in an excellent outcome with minimized risks of complications.
