Is it possible to shrink large pores? What treatments would help with that? I'm thinking about laser genesis.

Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads can seriously improve surface sun damage and UV related pigmentation. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery.

There are many options to improve pores but pores are genetic so there are no "cures" just improvements.  My patients love clear + brilliant for this. I have not seen great results with genesis for this.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Unfortunately, pore size is really about genetics so there is really only so much that you can do. However, I have found that improving the overall look, tone and texture of your skin helps your pores to be less noticeable. And yes, the Laser Genesis is a great option for this. But it will take a series of treatments so keep that in mind. 

Pore size is genetic, but what makes everyone's pores become more noticeable and larger with age is the loss of superficial dermal collagen, the support around the pores.  When this loss occurs, the pores literally 'open up' and become more noticeable.  What can be done to keep dermal collagen healthy? The answer is that you cannot change your pore size but you can change the texture of the overall skin and the tone, which helps to alleviate the large pore appearance. Laser Genesis is good for this and is an effective minimal downtime treatment. You could also consider using Retin-A which helps with texture.
